Jugen — mokume diamond ring
To watch the sun sink behind a flower clad hill. To wander on in a huge forest without thought of return. To stand upon the shore and gaze after a boat that disappears behind distant islands. To contemplate the flight of wild geese seen and lost among the clouds...This is how Zeami Motokiyo, the Japanese poet, wrote about Yugen.
Yugen is the beauty of the unsaid. When you throw «no words to say» — this is it. A silent feeling when contemplating moonlight and the youthful unrest of the sea or its totally opposite pervasive calm. And probably, this is not the reason you wake up in the morning, but this is why the whole world does.
It’s the gaps in paintings, the emptiness on the verge of colors and sounds vanishing. It’s the evidence of time which may be seen only when you are separated from it. The art which emerges when you become is no longer the creator but the process itself. It’s the tenderness remaining in the embraces of dawn. It’s the melody of children’s laughter. It’s the whisper of everything happening between heaven and earth, piercing you with that sweet, light, total lack of words.
We are the followers of art, which can be explained for years, just like a woman is. The «Yugen» ring in mokume gane style needs no words like «unique» or «special». It’s made of red and etched silver that we oxidize and darken. A diamond, sitting in its center, hides something much deeper behind its simplicity.
